Jennan's eye today

It's almost been a week since Jennan gave herself a black eye (with the help of a wall and window sill). It's been just about every shade of blue, black, violet, maroon, then greens and yellows as it continues to get better.

Yesterday the kids had some friends from church over, and in the course of their visit, we noticed that the scab was gone. Jennan said it was better so it came off. She had been messing with it earlier, so we figure she just popped it off. It's got that "fresh skin" pink color to it.

So yeah, Liam will have his cut, and Jennan the eye for their Christmas day pictures. Oh the memories.

Jennan's black eye

While the kids were at Grandma McAlister's house Thursday, Jennan at some point was jumping on the bed in the front bedroom. And just like the monkeys, she fell off and bumped her head.

Actually, she jumped right into the wall, and the corner of a window sill. It scraped her eye socket really bad, and gave her a huge black eye. I guess it also got really swollen. By the time I picked the kids up, it had been a day, so some of the swelling had gone down, but it was black and blue for sure.

Once we got home, I took a few pictures. OUCH!

The ones above are from Friday. The ones below are from today (Saturday).

That's one nasty scab she's got going. Hopefully it doesn't scar too bad. Also you can tell in the more recent pictures, that the bruising is still spreading. It's gone toward her hairline, and a little further down her eye.

It doesn't seem to bother her at all. She her usual energetic self. So that's good.

Oh poor widdle Jennan.

Fell Down

Last night after baths, the kids were watching some TV before bed time. I was finishing the day's dishes when I heard a thump, and immediate crying.

I rushed in to find Tegan standing and crying. Her forehead and upper lip were red. I could tell a layer of skin had been scraped off her lip. Once she calmed down, I got some ice for her head. She didn't care for the cold, and her head didn't seem to be forming a bump so I cleaned her up and started the bedtime routine.

I thought that she must have slipped on the fireplace, or leaned back in the small chair that was in the living room and hit the fireplace, or something along those lines.

Here's what it looks like this morning. Looks like I cut off the raspberry on her forehead.

Then this morning during breakfast, Duncan asked why Tegan had a red lip and nose. I reminded him that Tegan fell down last night. He said, "Oh yeah, she was sitting on the couch part (indicating the arm of the couch), and she fell off..."

That makes a lot more sense looking at her scrapes. She was drinking from her sippy cup when she fell. The width of the scrape on her lip looks about the same width as the sippy cup spout. So as she started to fall, she pulled the cup out of her mouth just in time to land on in, and continued over onto her head.

I know she was drinking right before she fell because when I helped her up, she still had milk in her mouth.

So yeah, that's the cute little scraped face we get to see for the next week or so.

That aint lip stick...

Last night as we began dinner, Jennan was standing in her chair at the table, and somehow slipped or misstepped and fell off her chair. On the way down she clipped her lip on the edge of the table. She put a nice scrape on her chin and put a lower tooth through her lip as well. Even after cleaning her up, she was quite upset for over 30 minutes. It took putting on a Wiggles DVD to calm her down and get her mind off of her lip. She even eventually ate dinner.

After getting cleaned up last night.

How it looked this morning.

Jennan's fallen out of her chair at the table countless of times. She usually lands on her head one way or another. Even just sitting there eating, she has found a way to fall out of her chair. Maybe it's true, some people are just clumsy or clutsy, and that's just how it is. Maybe we should have encouraged her to crawl a little longer.

Or is it Karma? Jennan just recently sprayed sunblock in Tegan's eye. I know Earl would think so...

Thanks big sis... (not)

Yesterday, Jennan apparently decided that Tegan needed some sunblock, and sprayed some in her face at point blank range. And when I say face, I mean eye. I don't think Jennan meant to spray Tegan primarily in the eye, but that's what happened.

It was her left eye. It got really puffy and red. The picture was taken a few hours after it happened. It was already looking much better. It was much worse earlier in the day. I used a really wet washcloth to try and "rinse" the eye, but an 11 month old who's already got an eye full of pain, doesn't want to hold still so you can do other things with that eye too.

Today Tegan's eye is back to normal.

Fun stuff! (sarcasm)
