Hey, it's Monday, and I remembered to do Monday Music today!
Today's music was randomly selected. I reshuffled my iPod, and went to the 13th song, because today is the 13th.
Here's what was there...
Joy Division "Digital"
That is probably my favorite Joy Division song.
Bonus Music:
Saturday, while we were driving to Anna's folks' house, this song came on. It put me in a great mood right away, and brought back tons of great stake youth, and single adult, dance memories. I turned it up in the car, and hoped that the kids wouldn't be singing the words when we got there. They didn't, so that was good.
Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy, "Kiss Me"
This version is a little different than the one I have on my iPod. Gotta love 80's synth-pop.

Friday Flashback 04.10.09
Looks like I forgot to post a "Friday Flashback" on Friday. Oops. But here it is, only 24 hours late...
I realized a few days ago, that it's already been a year since we drove out to Albuquerque, NM to visit Keith and Mindy, and attend Carter's blessing. On one hand, it feels like it was a long time ago, but on the other hand, we had such a great time on the drive, that it doesn't seem like it was a year ago yet.
Anyway, I pulled up some of the pictures from that trip for a small stroll down memory lane...
Here's Duncan eating breakfast the morning of our trip. He's looking a little like Squiggy from the Laverne and Shirley tv show.

Aaaaaawwwwwe.

Jennan during the drive out.

Glasses Girl!!! She's gone forever... sometimes I miss her. (But I sure don't miss hearing, "Do you want to take my contacts out for me?")

A blurry out-crop photo from the drive home. Anna was nuts about seeing these.

Ship Rock. It was about a 3 or 4 hour side trip just to see this volcanic neck.

Liam and Tegan on the way home.

Here's our family at the Petrified Forest National Park.

I don't remember the exact name of where we are here. Something about teepees. It's also in the National Park. It also happens to be one of my favorite pictures from our trip.

Those are just some of the pictures from our trip, but they're all pretty similar to the ones I shared- driving to and from in the van, us on geologic findings, etc. Unfortunately, we totally forgot to take any pictures of us with Keith and Mindy, or of Carter, or with any of the other family members that were able to make it out there. We need to be better about doing that kind of stuff.

Monday Music 04.06.09 as of 04.09.09
I forgot to do "Monday Music" on Monday, so instead of just skipping it, I decided to do it today.
Random shuffle song #36...
Chevelle "Closure"
From their album Vena Sera. Great album.

At The Drive In
Last Saturday night, we went to the drive-in with some friends of ours from our ward, the Bocanegras. We saw Monsters vs. Aliens and Hotel For Dogs.
It was a nice warm day, somewhere in low-mid 70s; but once the sun was down, the temp dropped into the low 50s. It was pretty chilly. Luckily, we thought to bring some nice warm fleece blankets, and our kids were fine.

The kids ate hot dogs, chips, and bananas for dinner, and had butter-free pop corn during the movie. Anna and I got Carl's Jr. Bourbon burgers (we had a buy 1 get 1 free coupon). They were actually quite tasty. The onion strings really make that burger.
Fun stuff. We'll definitely be doing that more drive-in movies when the nights are a little warmer (can't believe I would look forward to that).

The Growing Is Done
Well, the growing stage of the Mr. Sasquatch competition is now over. It ended March 31st. I've entered my pictures, and the voting will begin on Monday the 6th and go through the 12th. You can only vote once, so you'll have to spread the word for me.
Here's one of the pictures I entered.

Make sure you vote starting Monday.

Friday Flashback 04.03.09
I made another random grab from a bunch of pictures I have and this is what I pulled out...

It's me, wearing an orange shirt. I'm wearing it because it has a bulldog on it. I think I bought that at an Urban Outfitter store in Pasadena. Anyway, I'm not even looking in this picture, and it's not very interesting, so I grabbed another picture to see if that one was any better. Here's what I pulled out...

This is not a very well taken picture either. That's my good friend Jared next to me looking at the camera. I recognise my friend Jame's head to the right, and I believe the girl drinking from the blue cup is Leslie, and the top of the other person's head is Sarah. After much thought and brain racking, I've come to the conclusion that this is either Kevin's farewell or homecoming open house. I believe we're in the home of a ward member in El Monte. This type of picture is one my dad would attempt. This would have been quite a while ago.

Jared is married and has a couple of boys. They live in Utah. Leslie is married and has a family, and lives in Arizona. So does Sarah. James is back in Baldwin Park. It's too bad we're all so spread out. It would be fun to get together with our families.

April Fools' Dinner
This year, I was a little stumped as to what to do for our April fools' dinner. Last year I made marshmallow-co-co-crispy "meatloaf", with vanilla ice cream "mashed potatoes", and caramel syrup "gravy". With chicken nugget "mini-cupcakes" with pink mashed potato "frosting" for dessert. But that was before we had the boys on their diet. So repeating last year's dinner was not an option.
Then I thought, maybe a change in utensils or eating on something other than plates would be fun. Like serving taquitos in a cup, and Anna came up with drinking their juice/milk out of a bowl.
I continued to think about it, and decided to make "ginger bread man" meatballs, with "candy cane" apple wedges, and french fries (couldn't think of anything clever for those). We make our own meatballs all the time, so all I had to do was shape them into little people shapes. For the apples, I used a scoring utensil to create the stripe effect. We used ketchup to decorate with.
Here's what it looked like.

Jennan looks happy with dinner. The girls' "cookie" had a dress.
