friday flashback 02.19.10

Hey, look at me, I remembered to do a friday flashback amidst my busy schedule today!

Here it is...

We're at the Pali lookout at the Nu'uanu Pali State Park in Hawaii. As you can tell, it's WINDY there. This is from our family trip in 2001.

Kyle and Keith are posing twins (doing the same thing in the picture).

Anna's dreads were going crazy in the wind. Mom's hair was probably just as crazy, and Kristi probably had her dreads tied up (or is it down?).

Our shirts were very filled with air... yeah, that's it... they were filled with air... that's why they look all filled out!

This spot is on my personal "must do" list when ever I go to Hawaii. Probably because I've visited there every time I've ever been to Hawaii. My Hawaii is the island of Oahu. Anna's Hawaii is the island of Hawaii. We've never been there as just a couple, so it'll be interesting to see how we compromise any future Hawaii trip itinerary.

Which reminds me, we need to plan our anniversary trip. Hawaii is on the list, as well as a cruise, and Portland, Oregon. We should probably start the booking process soon to get the cheapest rates. Anyone have an opinion on any of that? Or advice?

friday flashback 01.15.10

The back of this picture has the stamped date of "Dec/12/99". The birthday sign in the background is for Kelly's 16th birthday, so this was probably taken between Nov. 18 and Dec. 12., 1999.

There's a few things that stand out in this picture. First there's Anna, hubba-hubba. Second, Kristi's hair. Not that she doesn't have her dreads so much as how she has it there. Then there's Kyle as a skinny bones jones. That's Nick on Lisa's lap. I think he's a junior or senior in HS these days. The tower of "stuff" holding Kelly's birthday sign is no longer there. Looks like food must be in the immediate future.
I guess this one stood out to me this week because of how different most things in this picture are compared to now. But I guess we'll look back 11 years from now, and think the same thing about pictures taken today.
Happy Friday.

friday flashback 11.20.09

That's a keeper.

This picture actually has writing on the back. It says, "brothers and sisters getting in on Kevin's photo shoot.", and it's dated (sort of), Aug/Sept 1995.

If my memory serves me right, and it rarely does, Kevin was taking some pictures for his mission paperwork. That's why he's wearing a tie. I believe he was using that yellowy-orangish blanket, draped over a string through the front room, as a backdrop. The blanket made the string droop, so he had to take the pictures while kneeling.

My guess is that dad, who was probably taking the picture, asked/told us kids to all get together for a picture. We might have taken a "nice" picture, but I don't have it if we did. Instead, I have this pretty fun picture of us all.

Someone must have mentioned reacting to something or looking at something to the right because most of us are doing that to some degree. As you can see, Kevin and I are really selling it. Kristi and Keith looked but it wasn't as scary/exciting for them as it was us. Kelly's too busy watching Kevin to look at what's there. Kim is... holding Kristi at finger-gun point? And Kyle is in his pjs looking pretty oblivious to it all.

Yep, that's us. (14 years ago) We're a pretty fun group.

Kyle's Birthday

Today is Kyle's birthday. I've gathered up a handful of pictures to share...

Young Kyle's hair was usually quite long. I think mom and dad had a thing for his curls. (1981)

Kyle has always been very facially expressive. (1987)
Freshman Kyle wearing the EMHS marching band colors. (1992?)

"I want to eat that." is how I interpret Kyle's gesture here. On the back it says it's Thanksgiving 1995. That means the hot chick in the back round is Anna McAlister.

Kyle had a thing for these green pants and loved to wear them to young adult dances. He's also a master air-clarinet player!

So yeah, those are some of the many pictures that have Kyle in them. Kyle's always been a character. He has siren strength laughter and laughs often. He has a tremendous sense of humor.

Kyle taught me a lot while he was an instructor when I was an Elder's Quorum president. He had an insightful way of teaching that I enjoyed quite a bit.

Kyle is a very knowledgeable person, and when I have a question I think he might know the answer to, he never hesitates to share what he knows.

Hope you enjoyed your birthday weekend. Happy birthday Kyle, from us to you.

Friday Flashback 1.9.09

Today's photo is from December 1997. (It's written on the back)
The location is the Barney's home in El Monte.
It was Kyle's mission farewell open house.
Pictured is Kyle, Scotty, Sara, and Anna... just over 11 years ago!
Crazy.
How did I choose this as my flashback photo? Well, over the Christmas holiday at the Foutz compound, a few of us went through some of the clutter at my folks' house. I was separating the piles and piles of pictures into stacks for each sibling to take home. I have no idea how many I took home. I'm guessing it's close to 200.
Anyhow, I just picked a random picture from that stack I took home.
Pretty scientific of me, huh?
