Monday Music 3.2.09

Last week sometime, I did one of those dumb survey type things and posted it to the blog. It was the one where you shuffle your music player and put the song titles as the answers to the questions. Most of the song titles didn't match the questions, but some were pretty humorous. Anyway, one of the songs that popped up in the shuffle was "I eat Cannibals" by Total Coelo. Total 80's new wave pop.

A few days after posting the results of that survey, we were driving home from somewhere and it popped up again (the songs were reshuffled), so I thought I would share it with all of you.

Monday Music 2.2.09

Inspired by one of the young men in my ward that said, "You like Jamaican music?", as I turned up the volume for a reggae song that came on the radio.


I replied, "There's lots of different music in Jamaica, just like the U.S. This music is called Reggae, and yes, I like it."

It Continues

I'm still in the process of putting my CDs on my iPod. The last time I mentioned loading music onto my iPod, I had just used up the available space on my computer, and still had tons of music to upload.


A few days after that, I headed out to Best Buy to purchase an external hard drive. The one that I had my eye on was sold out, but there were other brands with the same capacity at the same price, so I looked around a bit in the aisle. I happened across one that was on clearance. It had 320 GBs of storage and was about $20.00 cheaper than the 250GB ones I was looking at. So that's the one I got.


After setting it up, it took a little while to figure out how to move all my files over to it, but eventually I did it. I was good to go.


Ever since then, I've been continuously uploading my CDs to my iTunes library, and have a lot more to go still. Some good friends of ours in our ward have mp3 players and are big music lovers, and we've been swapping CDs with them as well, so my personal library also continues to grow.

Currently my iPod has 2774 songs, from 349 albums, using 9.8 GBs. It would take over 7 days to listen to it all. And I still have lots more music to go.

So yeah, it's been lots of fun so far.

On Pause

Today as I continued to convert my CDs to mp3 format and uploading them to my itunes library, I got a computer prompt that I was low on memory space. So now I'm looking into getting an external hard drive to hold all the music/media files.

Or,

my computer actually has a second hard drive with about 58 available GB of space, so I might be able to move my files over there. But there's a chance I could get pretty close to maxing that out as well. In which case, I would then need to move to an external HD. So I'm thinking I might as well just get an external HD.

My iPod is 120GB size.


I wish I could just upload the music onto the iPod directly without having to use a managing program, then I wouldn't need anything extra, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way. If you know differently, please let me know.

btw, as it stands, I'm up to a little over 1000 songs uploaded.

Music 2.0

This is a continuation from Monday's music post.

These are some of the songs on that mix CD I made years ago called "Oddities and Rarities".

This song is titled "Medicine" and it's by a band named Orbit...



Here are The Flys and their song "Got you where I want you". A young Katie Holmes is the lead in the video. Looks like there are clips from a movie too.


Next is Imperial Teen, and their song "yoo hoo". It was featured in the movie "Jawbreaker" with Rose McGowan, who is also featured in this video. It is an oddity for sure...


Here's a song by Supergrass called "We Still Need More (Than Anyone Can Give)". Looks like it was featured in a movie called Dead Man on Campus. I don't know that I've seen that movie. Might have to check it out.

Monday Music

This week I listened to a variety of music. Well, maybe not a "variety", it was all pretty much alternative music, but it was from various artists.

I listened to "Kid A" from Radiohead. There are a lot of songs I really like from that album. It came out quite closely to "OK Computer", and is very similar in sound and style.

The next one is titled "Kid A". I think I like it because there are so many different musical layers all happening at the same time to create it. (fan video, and only a portion of the track)



This is another one I really like, it's titled "The National Anthem" (live)

I like how the bass and drum remain constant through all the chaos.

Anyway, I better move on or I'll end up putting the whole album up here. Kid A is one of those CDs that moves so effortlessly between songs, that before you know it, it's over.

In a completely different direction musically, I also listened to 311 this week. I listened to "Sound System" and "Evolver".

From Sound System, I think my favorite song is "Flowing". Here's a live version...

As for Evolver, I found that there were aspects of each song that I kind of liked, but once I heard it, I was ready to move on. I think I listened to the first song all the way through, but I skipped through the rest. I consider myself a 311 fan, but that's not their best work. Not sure why I own that CD.

Other than that, I listened to a mix CD I made many years ago. I titled it "Oddities and Rarities". It was fun to listen to. I'm kind of out of time for this post, so I'll try to get to it in a future post this week. (or maybe later today, we'll see)

Monday Music

This last week I guess I got a little tired of the quirky indie music and female lead pop-rock, because I ended up listening to some much heavier stuff (sort of).

I was in the mood for this one song last week. I think it was because I have it in the stack of CDs that are in the kitchen. (The CDs in the kitchen are there by chance, they weren't selected to be there.) It's called "Stupid Girl" and it's by a little known band called "Cold". I think I just really like the sound of that song. Anyway, I can't embed it to the blog so you have to follow this link HERE.

I also listened to Chevelle's CD titled "Vena Sera". It's a pretty solid listen from start to finish. The CD I have is actually an import copy, and it also has some of their other popular singles from some past albums on it.

Monday Music

This week I found myself listening to some Tegan and Sara, and The Donnas.

I listened to "Gold Medal" from The Donnas. It has some pretty good songs, but it's not my favorite. I like their album "Spend the Night" better.

That's probably the best song on the CD.

As for Tegan and Sara, I listened to their album "So Jealous". This is the first CD of theirs that I bought, so I kind of like it the best too.

In case you didn't figure it out, Tegan and Sara are twins. Tegan has the super short bangs and Sara's hair cut is a little more normal. And yes, Tegan of Tegan and Sara is the inspiration behind our little Tegan's name, but I wouldn't say she's named after her. We just liked that name.

Anyhow, that's what I've been listening to. Looks like I've been in the mood for some female lead vocals.

Monday Music Mayhem!

(Not really, but that's what popped into my head as I sat down to write this.)

This past week I've been listening to Interpol. Specifically their album Interpolantics. Good stuff.

Music Monday

This week I've been listening to a couple different albums. I usually listen to them while I'm washing the dishes.

Korn, "Untouchables". Korn is from Bakersfield, CA.

All of the videos for the singles off this album have the code removed from their youtube locations, so I can't copy them to here. And aparently, I can't have two playlist.com windows on the same page, so that didn't work either. So, I'll put a couple of hyperlinks here, so you can go there to hear the Korn songs. Oh well. Monday Music Spotlight...

Wow, that sounds kind of official.

Anyhow, I was up late the other day (actually most days) and I happened upon Vh1's show called Nocturnal State. It features "alternative" or "Indie" type videos, so I'm usually glad I come across it. I tend to like finding out about new or up-and-coming bands or groups and solo artists, and Nocturnal is pretty good about showcasing those kinds of acts.

Long story short, when I switched over to Nocturnal State, this video was already playing, and I liked the sound of the music right away, so I continued to watch and listen. As it ended, I thought that I really liked that song, and looked to see who it was from. It's from a band called "The Airborne Toxic Event", and the song is called "Sometime Around Midnight". I really like the sound of the music and the vocals on top of it. I haven't decided if I like all the actual lyrics yet, but I like how their sung.
